Born in the UK and having emigrated to Australia in 1982, my path to the easel was not a straight line. After a 42-year hiatus from the arts, I rediscovered my creative voice in early 2019. This "second act" has been more than just a return to a hobby; it has been a profound reawakening.
In August 2024, I relocated from Western Australia to the verdant subtropical Noosa Hinterlands of Federal, Queensland. Today, I work from an expansive studio sanctuary—a converted space that allows me the freedom to explore the vibrant landscape and wildlife that now surround me.
I am often asked why I don't "specialize" in one subject. For me, the answer is simple: Authenticity. To limit myself to a single niche would be to close my eyes to the diversity of life. My paintings are an expression of feeling, not a quest for photorealism. My goal to capture the essence and spirit with minimal brushstrokes. By alternating between acrylics, soft pastels, charcoal, and pen with watercolours the media force me to think outside the box, ensuring every piece is an honest, energetic response to the spark of life.
Most days, you will find me in the studio by 3:00 AM. In that stillness, the world falls away, and the subject comes to life on the canvas with every stroke. This dedication has resulted in a prolific output of over 1000 works since 2019, around 1/3 of which now reside in private homes across Australia.
